An international promoting committee, established by mediterranean and African clinical chemistry associations, members of IFCC, met in rome on december 16, 1978, following the invitation of theSocietà Italiana di Biochimica Clinica (Italian society of clinical biochemistry) and decided to held the1st African and Mediterranean Congress of Clinical Chemistry (regional aspects of organization, training, science and technology) in Milan, Italy, on November 11–15, 1980.
