Summary

The inhibitory influence of ehlortetracycline on the dextrination activity of pancreatic α-amylase was demonstrated. This inhibition is reversible and can be removed by the anions of organic acids. On the other hand it was found that chlortetracycline in high concentrations (1.400 μg./ml.) only very slightly influences the activity of the α-amylase of the production strain,Actinomyces aureofaciens. This amylase, therefore, is entirely different from the α-amylase of the fungusAspergillus oryzae and from pancreatic α-amylase in relation to chlortetracycline. The course of the activity of α-amylase during fermentation of chlortetracycline by the production strainActinomyces aureofaciens was studied.
