Moite proprietá dei solidi sono influenzate e spesso determinate dalla presenza di irregolaritá nel reticolo cristallino. Lo studio del comportamento di tali irregolaritá, o difetti, é appena agli inizi ma ha giá fornito un notevole contributo alla conoscenza della struttura della materia. Vengono esaminati alcuni degli aspetti piú caratteristici di questo campo della fisica, con particolare riferimento al caso dei metalli.

Summary

Several properties of solids are related to defects existing within their crystal lattice. Both theoretical and experimental investigations of such defects have been developed only recently but a number of basic facts are already established. Some peculiar features of the behavior of lattice defects in metals are reviewed.
