Sunto
Summary
This paper has a purely expositive character. The following problem is studied. IfM is a right module and {N 1} is a family of left modules over a ringR, the canonical homomorphismM ⊗ (II N 1) →II (M ⊗ N 1) is not usually a monomorphism. The right modulesM for which it is a monomorphism for every family of leftR-modules {N 1} are calledMittag-Leffler modules. Firstly we give various characterizations of Mittag-Leffler modules. then we show that all rightR-modules are Mittag-Leffler modules if and only if the right pure global dimension ofR is zero (all the terminology we make use of is explained in detail in the paper). Finally a connection with the rings of finite representation type is shown.
None of these results is presented here for the first time, but we give proofs of some theorems (Theorem 6, Lemma 7, Theorems 8 and 11), which are different and easier than those existing in the literature at present.
