Sommario

Abstract

Formal language theory is a fairly new mathematical discipline. Its main applications are within linguistics and computer science.

In this paper formal languages main topics are presented. The main purpose is to provide some motivation for the study of this discipline in the world of classic mathematics.

An annotated bibliography is supplied to the reader interested into a deeper knowledge of the literature.
