Dopo aver richiamato alcune proprietà del gruppo modulare, l’A. espone i rapporti tra sottogruppi congruenziali e corpi di funzioni modulari. Accenna poi al problema dei sottogruppi congruenziali e ad alcuni suoi recenti sviluppi.

Summary

After a brief survey of some properties of the modular group, the Author states relations between congruence subgroups and fields of modular functions. Another subject treated is the congruence subgroup problem and some of its recent developments.
