Summary
The article deals with methods, which make the structures of, e.g., 8 European economies transparent and comparable; Total Uses, Final Uses and Primary Ressources serve as examples. It follows a test of the connection between thestructure and thelevel of economic development.
Comparalole input-output tables and a separately computed GDP-ranking are use as a material basis. The Euclidian norm is applied as measure for structural differences. An analysis of the growth behaviour of the Hungerian economy 1959–65 reveals a significant connection between the level and the structure of development inasmuch as Hungary strongly converges with the structural centre of Europe formed by the economies of Czechoslovakia and Italy. A special feature of socialist development appears to be a "supranormal" share of the machinery sectors if compared with capitalist economies of a corresponding development level.
