We use units:h=c=m π=1.k is the relative momentum in the c.m. system. From now on we suppress thel-dependence.
This is especially significant since dispersion expressions derived byDashen andFrautschi (ref. (6)) for shift in bound states and resonances when the left-hand cuts are perturbed have recently come under criticism. See for instance,Y. S. Kim:Phys. Rev.,142, 1150 (1966) and other preprints;R. F. Sawyer:Phys. Rev.,142, 991 (1966).
We exelude the case of η=0. While this limit has some theoretical interest in terms of multichannel CDD singularities and Levinson’s theorem, it is largely irrelevant here for we are talking only about perturbative shifts due to inelasticity.
It is possible to generalize these expressions and obtainn-th-order perturbations of mass and coupling constants,P. Nath andY. N. Srivastava (unpublished). Even though eqs. (11) and (12) have not been obtained explicitly before they can be seen to follow from the work in ref.(4).
The linearD approximation (i.e., settingD ″(S B)=0) was found to be inaccurate. It produced a wrong sign for δΓ.
