Summary

CoII, NiII, CuII, MnII, PdII, CrIII and FeIII chelate monomers based upon 1-phenyl-4-methylpent-4-en-1,3-dione have been synthesized by interaction of the metal salts with the sodium derivative of the ligand in water. The complexes were shown to have octahedral structure, with axial coordination of water. The method of dehydration of these compounds has been developed by the preparation of pyridine adducts with following their dryingin vacuo at 100°C. Graft polymerization of the monomers onto a polyethylene powder preirradiated in air has been studied.
