Abstract

A focusing method is developed to characterize the refractive index profile of polymer optical fiber (POF). Based on the refractive index profile the theoretical bandwidth and the core index exponent α (α > 0) of POF are calculated. The results show that the value of theoretical bandwidth agrees well with the experimental data.
