Geometrical symmetry breaking.

— Confinement andCP violation

Summary

In this paper we outline an approach to QCD confinement based upon topological considerations which leads, almost immediately, to a skinny topological bag model for baryons. This notion of confinement may be accommodated into the general model of flavour symmetry breaking introduced previously to study strong symmetry breaking effects among the light mesons. The formalism singles out theCP = + 1 neutral-kaonCP-eigenstate as the carrier of topological structure, and a model ofCP violation is suggested which is implemented in terms of quantum-mechanical tunnelling between topological vacuum sectors of the symmetry breaking field. This yields the estimate |ε| ≈ 2.38-10−3per it parametro di for the conventionally defined kaon CP-mixing parameter.
