Abstract
Firewood is a major energy source in India. Yet no minimum fuel efficiency standards have been set for firewood devices. This paper describes methods of determining the first law efficiencies of open fires, chulahs and other wood-based heaters. About thirteen different stoves have been tested and efficiency standards for stoves have been suggested.
