On the difference between quark and gluon jets

Summary

We study in some detail the longitudinal- and transverse-momentum distributions of hadrons in quark and gluon jets. Using the string configuration in$e^ + e^ - \to q\bar qg$ to define the frame in which the components of the split gluon are hadronized we explore the kinematical consequences. We show by analytic calculations the softening of the energy distribution and the somewhat larger average transverse momentum of gluon jets.

Si studiano in dettaglio le distribuzioni dell’impulso longitudinale e trasversale degli adroni in getti di quark e gluoni. Usando la configurazione di stringhe in$e^ + e^ - \to q\bar qg$ per definire la struttura in cui le componenti del gluone scisso sono adronizzate si esaminano le conseguenze cinematiche. Si mostra mediante continuazione analitica l’ammorbidimento della distribuzione dell’energia e l’impulso trasversale medio dei getti di gluoni alquanto piú grande.

Мы подробно исследуем распредения продольных и поперечных импульсов адронов в кварковых и глуонных струях. Используя струнную конфигурацию в$e^ + e^ - \to q\bar qg$ для определения системы, в которой компоненты лиссоциированного глуона адронизируются, мы исследуем кинематические следствия. С помощью аналитических вычислений мы показываем смягчение энергетического распределения и увеличение среднего попечного импульса для глуонных струй.
