Soft-mass renormalization of the σ-model

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1971-1996)

Summary

Soft-mass renormalization, a variant of the BPHZ renormalization scheme, is applied to the σ-model. Artificial infra-red divergences, introduced by the subtraction scheme, show up and are removed by finite renormalizations. Canonical Ward-Takahashi identities are obtained. The σ-model is considered as a test case for the treatment of non-Abelian gauge theories where similar problems are present.
