Abstract
Steroidal saponins, possible precursors for cortisone synthesis, have been found to be absent in Crotalaria spectabilis Roth. Qualitative results were obtained for flavonols, alkaloids, tannins, unsaturated sterols, and organic acids. A characteristic infrared spectrum has been established for the toxic alkaloid, monocrotaline. The results of a routine drug analysis have been reported.
