Abstract

IditaRed is a pale yellow-fleshed, red-skinned potato variety that yields well in the cold soils and short growing seasons characteristic of southcentral Alaska. It has an exceptionally tough skin for a red potato, one that is highly resistant to feathering and slipping at harvest. It has a low set (5–6 per plant) of medium to large sized tubers. Its US #1 and total yields are comparable to those of Green Mountain, the top yielding commercial variety in this region. It consistently out yields other red-skinned varieties. IditaRed is susceptible to potato viruses X and S. It produces typical foliage and tuber symptoms when infected with bacterial ring rot disease. IditaRed has commercial potential in Alaska, and may be a useful commercial variety in other areas where growing seasons are short and cool temperatures prevail.

Compendio
