The vanishing of ϕ in the massive Schwinger model

Within the framework of the massive Schwinger model Coleman has considered the possibility of including in the vector potential ac-number term which gives rise to a uniform background electric field. This additional term (the so-called ϕ-parameter) is shown necessarily to vanish by the requirement of translational invariance, thereby leaving the electric charge and the fermion mass as the sole adjustable quantities in the theory.

Nel contesto del modello massivo di Schwinger, Coleman ha considerato la possibilità di includere nel potenziale vettoriale un termine di numeroc che da origine a un campo elettrico di fondo uniforme.
