Presymplectic dynamics of a pole-dipole particle in external geometric fields

Summary

We describe the motion of a spinning test particle interacting with curvature, torsion and electromagnetic external fields. To this aim, we use the methods of the presymplectic geometry. The evolution space of the particle is the cotangent manifold of a principal fibre bundle over space-time. The equations of motion of the test particle are then derived in the free case, in the pole approximation and in the pole-dipole approximation, by means of a presymplectic 2-form, which is defined on suitable submanifolds of the evolution space. We take into account the dipole moments of momentum, spin and charge and we compare the equations of motion with the ones derived in general relativity. A description in terms of an exact presymplectic 2-form is briefly outlined. Finally, a comment on the conservation laws is also given.

Si descrive il moto di una particella di prova con spin interagente con i campi elettromagnetico e gravitazionale in presenza di torsione. A questo scopo si usano i metodi della geometria presimplettica. Le equazioni del moto delia particella di prova sono derivate nel caso libero e nelle approssimazioni polo e polo-dipolo mediante l’uso di una 2-forma presimplettica. Essa è definita su una varietà cotangente di uno spazio fibrato principale avente per base lo spazio-tempo e per gruppo strutturaleSO 3,1 × U1. Si considerano momenti di dipolo di energia-impulso, spin e carica elettrica e si confrontano le equazioni del moto con quelle ottenute in relatività generale. Infine si derivano le grandezze conservate che sono associate con le proprietà di simmetria dei campi esterni.
