Treatment of the Bloch equation with the coupled-cluster method

Summary

The Bloch equation for the temperature-dependent statistical operator is shown to be equivalent to a set of coupled-cluster equations. This infinite hierarchy of equations has to be truncated before performing explicit calculations. The canonical partition function can be formulated in a closed form in the case of the solvable model of Lipkin, Meshkov and Glick. A numerical computation for aN-fermion system shows the quality of the truncation scheme. We find excellent agreement for both very high and very low temperature and observe deviations in the medium range of the whole temperature scale in the case of strong coupling between the fermions.

Si mostra che l’equazione di Bloch per l’operatore statistico dipendente dalla temperatura è equivalente ad un insieme di equazioni di cluster accoppiati. Questa gerarchia infinita di equazioni deve essere trovata prima di eseguire calcoli espliciti. La funzione di partizione canonica si puÒ formulare in forma chiusa nel caso del modello risolvibile di Lipkin, Meshkov e Glick. Un calcolo numerico del sistema adN fermioni mostra la qualità dello schema di troncamento. Si trova un accordo eccellente sia per temperature molto basse che molto alte e si osservano deviazioni nell’intervallo medio dell’intera scala di temperatura nel caso di accoppiamento forte tra fermioni.
