Precision measurements of electroweak observables and testing of the standard model

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1971-1996)

Summary

We discuss to what extent the measurement of various physical observables at the Z0 peak will, in the coming years, test the standard model, with two parameters still unknown,M top andM Higgs. In particular we concentrate on the role ofA LR and ГeeZ. While the measurement of the polarization asymmetry,A LR, combined with a precise measurement ofM w, will allow the most precise test of the standard model without additional free parameters, a precise measurement of ГeeZ will correspond to a precise test of the model that is independent of the value of the two unknown masses, and it will also be useful to disentangle ρ0 < fromM top.
