T Ramasarma is a INSA Honorary Scientist at SSCU and Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He is a senior biochemist and has worked on biological oxidation of free radicals.

This article is based on a talk given at the Zonal Workshop on ‘Emergence of Modern Sciences (1895–1905)’, organized in August 2000 by Mahesh Chandra, Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat, at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
