Summary

A specific diet which has stood the test of time in the treatment of Diarrheal Diseases is given in detail with a full discussion of some of the underlying principles involved. Common misconceptions, pertaining to foods, prevalent amongst patients and physicians are discussed. Practical considerations are emphasized. Carob flour (Arobon), a hygroscopic fruit powder extensively used in the acute diarrheal diseases of infants and children in this country and abroad has been tried with gratifying results in the chronic diarrheas of adults exclusive of etiology. The oral use of carob flour does not impair the absorption of chloromycetin, terramycin, or aureomycin.
