Abstract

A computer program, 3DMAT, is described that displays surfaces in space. 3DMAT is an interactive expressions or mathematical models to display ternary and quaternary equilibrium surfaces in realistic perspective. In addition, the surfaces are displayed with full hidden line removal. The Gibbs energies and equilibrium surfaces for a variety of alloy systems are presented as examples: (1) Fe−Cu−Ni, including plots of Gibbs energy, activity coefficient, and the miscibility gap; (2) Gibbs energy surfaces for several III–V ternaries; (3) a solidus surface for one of the ternaries of the quaternary Mo−Nb−Ti−V system; and (4) the liquidus surfaces for the Al−Mg−Zn system.
