Intraspecific transformation inBacillus subtilis

The study of a greater number ofBacillus subtilis strains showed the differences in the ability to transform the standard acceptor strain. The results seem to support the possibility that this species is genetically heterogenous. This fact could be of importance even in practical taxonomy.
