Abstract

ThreeLactobacillus leichmannii ATCC 7830 growthpromoting factors have been isolated from sugarcane tops, alfalfa and malt. These substances proved to be active also with respect to the specific lactic bacteria isolated from sugarcane tops silage. The possible role of these factors in the selection and enhancement of the activity of lactic acid producing microorganisms in the silage process is discussed.
