Summary
For simple-model microscopic systems, we discuss whether (or not) potentially observable macroscopic quantum behaviour can arise, making explicit two criteria which must be satisfied for this to be possible. We also consider the relevance of this for macroscopic quantum behaviour in real systems.

We should point out that a contrasting macroscopic approach to superfluidity exists, in which the quantum analogues of the macroscopic classical hydrodynamic equations are used,L. D. Landau:J. Phys. We should point out that the equivalence between external rotation and external magnetic flux is not simply a theoretical tool. Mechanical rotation has actually been employed in experiments to effectively flux bias SQUID magnetometers. SeeJ. E. Zimmermann andJ. E. Mercereau:Phys. Rev. Lett.,14, 887 (1965).
Such a Hamiltonian has been used in a purely macroscopic treatment of a superconducting weak-link ring. See, for example, ref. [5,6].
HR eff is the effective Hamiltonian for the circuit viewed in the magnetic picture. For discussion of this in relation to the more familiar electric picture, see ref. [20].
