Low frequency capacitance measurements of photovoltaic cells based on microcrystalline chlorophylla

Abstract

Low-frequency capacitance measurements have been made to characterize aluminium/microcrystalline chlorophylla/silver Schottky barrier photovoltaic cells. The cell shows a voltage-independent geometric capacitance at frequencies above 10Hz in dark. Linear Schottky plots are obtained only at low frequencies, ∼0.1 Hz, or under illumination of the cell with adequate intensity. This is explained by the fact that the depletion layer is mainly due to low-mobility trapped charges that are not able to follow the variations of the applied voltage at high frequencies. The light is believed to detrap and mobilize these trapped charges. From linear Schottky plots, various depletion parameters have been calculated in dark and under illumination.
