M K Das Gupta originally a student of physics, subsequently recognized as a radio astronomer, being the co-discoverer (with R C Jennison) of the double structure of the radio galaxy, CYGNUS-A. A life-long post graduate teacher, he retired as the Professor and Head of the Department of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta in 1988.
