Smooth-skin of Russet Burbank potatoes as influenced by soil temperature and moisture

Summary

Surface netting of Russet Burbank potato tubers was modified by selected soil temperatures and minimum soil moisture levels. A soil temperature of 45 F completely eliminated skin netting. Russeting was also reduced by soil temperatures of 90 and 60 F.

Allowing the soil to dry to 25% of available soil moisture or less at 90 and 60 F reduced skin netting.
