Abstract

The antifungal activity of the different stages of Anagallis arvensis L. was compared, and similar results were obtained by all the methods of testing. Different dilutions of extracts of each of the plant-growth stages were tested for their effect on the germination of spores of Helminthosporium turcicum Pass. In Anagallis arvensis, the antifungal principle gradually increases in concentration from ‘seedling stage’ to the ‘flowering-initiation stage,’ then decreases with advanced age. The growth stages in the declining order of their fungitoxicity were ‘flowering-initiated,’ ‘full bloom with a few green fruits,’ ‘mature plants,’ ‘pre-flowering,’ and ‘seedling stage.’
