Summary
A series of field tests over a period of 4 growing seasons has shown that Urea-formaldehyde (Uracide) when applied into the furroe at time of planting prvides a very effective control of potato scab. The most satisfactory rate of application to obtain control without phytotoxicity appears to be 20 gal/A. Rates of 25 gal/A and above resulted in reduced yield. The material can be effectively applied at time of planting by the use of spray nozzles mounted directly on the potato planter and directed into the furrow just in front of the dropping seed pieces.
