A new tuber-bearingSolanum potentially useful for breeding for aphid resistance

Abstract

An original diagnosis ofSolanum × flavoviridens is presented. This is a new hybridogenic wild potato species native to the humid tropics of Bolivia. The plant is very glandulous and is practically covered throughout by the two types of glandular hairs which produce abundant sticky gummy exudate. This entity could represent a new potential source in potato breeding for resistance against aphids.

Se consigna la diagnosis original deSolanum × flavoviridens, una nueva especie silvestre hibridógena nativa de los trópicos húmedos de Bolivia. La planta es muy glandulosa y está prácticamente cubierta por los dos tipos de pelos glandulares que producen abundante exudado gomoso y pegajoso. Esta entidad podría representar una nueva fuente potencial en el mejoramiento de papa por resistencia contra áfidos.
