Methodology for glycoalkaloid analysis

  • Published:
American Potato Journal Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

A review of methods for the analysis of potato glycoalkaloids concentrating on developments in procedures which have occurred during the last 10 years is presented. Methods for total glycoalkaloid analysis are discussed in some detail as well as chromatographic methods (thin layer chromatography, gas chromatography, high pressure liquid chromatography) for identification and quantification of individual glycoalkaloids. The advantages and disadvantages of various chromatographic methods and two immunoassay methods (radioimmunoassay and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) are discussed.
