Abstract

A rapid screening procedure for detecting the presence of leptines in potato foliage was developed. The glycoalkaloids in expressed sap are separated by high performance thin-layer chromatography and detected with iodine vapor. About 80 foliage samples can be analyzed per day as compared to about 10 using other available methods, such as gas-liquid chromatography.
