Evaluation of direct tissue blotting to detect potato viruses

Abstract

Serological detection of potato viruses was more sensitive, faster, and less expensive with direct tissue blotting assay than with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Positive reactions were obtained with tobacco rattle virus, potato viruses S, Y, M, A, X, and potato leafroll virus. Virus was detected in leaves, petioles, stems, roots, and tubers.

La detección serológica de los virus de la papa fué más sensible, rápida y menos costosa cuando se aplicó, directamente sobre los tejidos, la prueba serológica en membranas de nitrocelulosa que cuando se utilizó la técnica serológica de conjugados enzimáticos (ELISA).

Se obtuvieron reacciones positivas con el “tobacco rattle virus” (TRV) y los virus S, Y, M, A, X y del enrollamiento de la hoja de la papa. Los virus fueron detectados en hojas, peciolos, tallos, raíces y tubérculos.
