Abstract

We survey the main aspects of the laser techniques to study the elementary processes that take place in the scattering of molecules from crystallographic surfaces. We discuss the salient features of the accommodation of the translational, rotational and vibrational degrees of freedom of the scattered molecules and we summarize the main results of a recent comparative study of molecular beam scattering on graphite and diamond.
