Abstract
Objective
To study the surgical treatment and the pathological features of metastatic autonomic nerve tumor to the liver.
Methods
To report and analyze one case of recurrent rectal autonomic nerve tumor accompanied by hepatic enormous metastasis which was surgically removed and pathologically diagnosed.
Results
A hepatic enormous tumor of 50 cm×30 cm×25 cm in size, 12.5 kg in weight and a rectal tumor of 10 cm×8 cm×6 cm were resected respectively in two stages and the pathological diagnosis was rectal autonomic nerve tumor. The patient has survived for 26 months after the operation and is being followed up.
Conclusion
Gastrointestinal autonomic nerve tumor has a high recurrent and metastatic rate and the liver is the main site of metastasis. If possible trying to operatively remove the primary and secondary lesions can get a satisfactory efficacy.
