Abstract
Beryllium is a “specialty” metal whose unusual properties have been exploited in a number of energy conversion systems. Low density and high elastic modulus make it a particularly attractive material in the aerospace environment. The physical and mechanical properties of the various grades of beryllium are reviewed, along with examples of successful applications in severe environments.
