A parton model of electromagnetic form factors of hadrons

  • Published:

Summary

We consider a model for hadronic electromagnetic form factors based on the idea that the photon couples directly to a spin-1/2 parton which interacts with hadrons. The assumptions that the parton mass is large and that hadron-parton amplitudes are the same for real or virtual partons allow us to express the form factors in terms of asymptotic (Regge) hadron-parton amplitudes. Using residue factorization and some simple assumptions about parton-Reggeon couplings we obtain pion and nucleon isovector electromagnetic form factors which depend mainly on their couplings to the ρ trajectory. We compute values for the mean-square radii which are in quite good agreement with experimental ones.
