Summary
We derive an expression for the Cerenkov radiation off a charged particle, in an isotropic permeable medium, moving parallel to a perfectly conducting neutral plate providing areflecting surface. The derivation is given from a quantum field-theoretical viewpoint. The motivation of the work is that a Cerenkov counter and the observation of the resulting spectrum would not only provide information on the presence of a charged particle in the conventional sense but would also indicate the presence of a reflecting surface deep within the medium and its approximate location.
