Summary

The commonest mailgnant conditions in childhood ate Hodgkin’s disease, acute lymphatic leukaemia, retinoblastoma and Wilm’s tumour. Malignancy is commoner in boys. No definite factor responsible for the causation of malignancy could be ascertained. Only in one case of Hodgkin’s disease a familial incidence was found Thyroid enlargement was present a incase of acute lymphocytic leukaemia which regressed along with the primary disease on treatment. The longest survival time of a case of Hodgkin’s disease was 5 years and of chronic myeloid leukaemia, 51/2 years. This study has also revealed that one has to collect data from various hospitals in order to know the type of malignancies prevalent in childhood, as cases with only a particular type of malignant disease are admitted to children’s hospital
