Qualitative theory of unsteady spherically symmetric self-gravitating gas flows

Summary

We consider the Eulerian model of the unsteady, spherically symmetric motion of a self-gravitating, ideal gas when the gas satisfies a polytropic equation of state. A qualitative analysis of self-similar solutions to the model demonstrates the nature of the singular points of the system as a function of the polytropic index. The results bear on the construction of transsonic, solutions to the model for both expansion and accretion flows.
