Summary
The spin-dependent structure functiong d1 of the deuteron has been measured in the deep inelastic scattering of polarised muons on polarised deuterons in the kinematical rangeQ 2>1 GeV2, 0.006<x<0.6. The first moment\(\Gamma _1^d = \int_0^1 {g_1^d dx = 0.023 \pm 0.020} \) (stat.)±0.015i (syst.) is smaller than the prediction of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rules. Using earlier measurements ofg p1 , the first moment of the spin-dependent neutron structure functiong n1 can be inferred. The differenceΓ p1 -Γ n1 =0.20±0.05(stat.) ±0.04 (syst.)
