Prospects of directly measuring charm-nucleon inelastic cross-sections in a D-meson beam

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1965-1970)

Summary

Using data from Fermilab experiment E791, we have established the feasibility of directly measuring D-nucleon inelastic cross-sections using thin-foil targets. A realistic experiment can measure absolute cross-sections with 15% precision and the difference between particle and antiparticle cross-section with 10% precision. Assuming that D cross-sections per nucleus vary asA α, the experiment can determine α with 0.04 precision.
