Exclusive beauty states and their lifetimes from the OPAL experiment

Summary

Recent experimental results regarding the production and lifetimes of exclusive b-hadron states from the OPAL experiment are presented. The results for the lifetimes of B 0d , B+ and B 0s in events with a semi-leptonic decay of the b-hadron and an associated reconstructed c-hadron are: τ(B 0d )=1.51 +0.30+0.12+0.28−0.14 ps and τ(B+)=1.51 +0.24−0.12+0.23−0.14 ps, τ(B 0s )=(1.13 +0.35−0.26 ±0.09) ps, where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively, and are consistent within the errors with the OPAL measurement of the average b-hadron lifetime measured in inclusive semi-leptonic decays. The lifetime of the b-baryons is measured to be τ(b-baryon)=(1.05 +0.23−0.20 ±0.08) ps, determined using the correlation between the lepton from the semi-leptonic decay of the b-baryon and a Λ from the subsequent decay chain.
