Lester M. Salamon is director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies and of the Johns Hopkins Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project. He is the author, among other works, ofAmerica’s Nonprofit Sector: A Primer (New York: The Foundation Center, 1992) andPartners in Public Service: Government and the Nonprofit Sector in the Modern Welfare State.

Helmut K. Anheier is Associate Professor of Sociology at Rutgers University and Associate Director of the Johns Hopkins Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project. He is the editor ofVoluntas, the principal international scholarly journal on the nonprofit sector, and is interested in comparative research methodology and organizational analysis.
