The analogue of the Reissner-Nordström solution in the Brans-Dicke theory

Summary

Following upon a discussion of Higbie’s work on charged-particle solutions in the Brans-Dicke theory, a fairly comprehensive treatment is given of the analogue—in this theory—of the Reissner-Nordström solution of general relativity. No restriction is placed upon the value of the parameter Χ=e ²/χM ² (e=charge,M=active mass, χ = Newton’s constant). Ten different classes of solutions have to he contemplated, at least five of which are physically acceptable. All of them are dealt with in turn and the various regions of Χ to which acceptable solutions correspond are determined. The investigation concludes with some remarks concerning the vacuum solutions of Brans.

Seguendo una discussione del lavoro di Higbie sulle soluzioni di particella carioa nella teoria di Brans-Dicko, si espone una trattazione abbastanza comprensiva dell’analogo, rispetto a questa teoria, della soluzione di Reissner-Nordström della relatività generale. Non si pone alcuna restrizione al valoro del parametro Χ = e²/χM ² (e = carica,M = massa attiva, χ = costanto newtoniana). Si devono contemplare dieci diverse classi di soluzioni, delle quali almeno cinque sono fisicamente accettabili. Si trattano tutte a turno e si doterminano le varie regioni di Χ alle quali corrispondono soluzioni accettabili. Lo studio si conclude con alcune osservazioni sulle soluzioni del vuoto di Brans.

Никаких ограничений на величину параметра χ = е²/хМ² (е=заряд,М=активная масса,x=постоянная Ньютона) не накладывается. Должно быть рассмотрено десять различных классов решений, по крайней мере, пять из них являются физически приемлемыми. Рассматриваются все решения по очереди и определяются различные областиχ, которым отвечают физически приемлемые решения.
