Summary
It has been suggested that the high σ(e+e− → hadrons) observed at SPEAR can be explained by electrons having hadronic cores. These could contribute to the decays of pseudoscalar mesons into e+e− pairs for which model-independent considerations show that only pseudoscalar and axial vector couplings are possible. From estimates of the decay rates we demostrate that the measurement of\(B_{\pi ^0 } = \Gamma (\pi ^0 \to e^ + e^ - )/\Gamma (\pi ^0 \to all)\) is a sensitive test. Since no specific measurement has been reported, the published data are reviewed in order to obtain an upper limit on\(B_{\pi ^0 } \). We find\(B_{\pi ^0 }< 8 \cdot 10^{ - 6} \) at the 90% confidence limit. This severely limits pure pseudoscalar coupling. We show that Weinberg-type neutral currents would give a negligible contribution toB.
Иэ оценок интенсивностей распадов мы устанавливаем, что иэмерение\(\Gamma (\pi ^0 \to e^ + e^ - )/\Gamma (\pi ^0 \to Bce)\) представляет чувствительную проверку.
