Non-linear beam dynamics in an RFQ under 3D space charge and image charge effects

Summary

Using a 3D computer code, beam dynamics in an RFQ has been analyzed under consideration of external electric field with higher-order multipole moments as well as space charge/image charge force. Beam transmission performance for two types of vane tip design with different tip curvature radii are reported. These results are compared with the ones obtained with the idealized linear two-term potential. It has been found that the transverse beam loss under beam-generated force can be enhanced by the external non-linear field due to the vane tip geometries.
