Summary
Cross-sections for neutrino production of the (hypothetical) intermediate boson of weak interactions, the W-boson, are calculated. The W-boson production reaction\(v_\ell + {\mathcal{N}} \to \ell + W + {\mathcal{N}}^ * \) and\(v_\ell + {\mathcal{N}} \to \ell + W + \Gamma \), where ℓ is a charged lepton (electron or muon) andv ℓ, its corresponding neutrino;\({\mathcal{N}}\), a nucleon;\({\mathcal{N}}^ * \), a nucleon resonance; and Γ, a nonresonant nucleon state, are considered in addition to the reactions\(v_\ell + {\mathcal{N}} \to \ell + W + {\mathcal{N}}\), andv ℓ+Z+ℓ+W+Z, where Z is a nucleus of chargeZ. The cross-sections are calculated up to large incident-neutrino energies,i.e. to regions where these (nonasymptotic) cross-sections increase ≈ proportional toE ν, the incident-neutrino energy. Cross-sections up to this energy region are necessary for deducing a reliable lower limit onM w, the W-boson mass, from the observation of a horizontal flux of muons deep undergound.

Si considerano le reazioni di produzione del bosone W\(v_\ell + {\mathcal{N}} \to \ell + W + {\mathcal{N}}^ * \), dove ℓ è un leptone carico (elettrone o muone) e\(v_\ell + {\mathcal{N}} \to \ell + W + \varphi \) il neutrino corrispondente,\({\mathcal{N}}\) un nucleone,\({\mathcal{N}}^ * \) una risonanza nucleonica, e Г uno stato nucleonico non risonante, oltre a {ie612-4} ev ℓ+Z→ℓ+ℓ+W+Z, dove Z è un nucleo di caricaZ. В дополнение к реакциям\(v_\ell + {\mathcal{N}} \to \ell + W + {\mathcal{N}}\) иv ℓ+Z→ℓ+ℓ+W+Z, где ℓ есть заряженный лептон (электрон или мюон),v ℓ−—соответствующее нейтрино, З—ядро с зарядомZ и\({\mathcal{N}}\)—нуклон; рассматриваются реакции рождения Щ-бозона\(v_\ell + {\mathcal{N}} \to \ell + W + {\mathcal{N}}^ * \), и\(v_\ell + {\mathcal{N}} \to \ell + W + \Gamma \), где\({\mathcal{N}}^ * \) есть нуклонный резонанс и Г—нерезонансное нуклонное состояние. Поперечные сечения вычисляются вплоть до энергий падающего нейтрино, т.е. до областей, где эти (неасимптотические) поперечные сечения увеличиваются пропорциональноE ν, энергии падающего нейтрино.
